IMF: Strauss-Kahn Not Have Immunity


Washington (ANTARA News) - The International Monetary Fund on Tuesday said that Strauss-Kahn, who was jailed in New York because of allegations of sexual violence, have no immunity as managing director of global institutions.

"Immunity MD (Dominique) is limited and does not apply to this case," IMF spokesman William Murray said in a statement.

Strauss-Kahn was arrested at JFK airport in New York on Saturday, after a Sofitel hotel chambermaid said she was attacked and tried to rape her.

On Monday the judge detailing the seven allegations against Strauss-Kahn and ordered him detained in prison without the guarantee until the jury decides whether there is sufficient evidence to prosecute him in court.

As head of the Washington-based IMF, former French finance minister enjoys preferential treatment, but does not have full immunity enjoyed by diplomats, including when they are not on official business.

Deed of establishment of the IMF gave its employees immunity from legal process in the territory of a member "in relation to acts committed by them in their official capacity."

On Monday the IMF said that Strauss-Kahn is in the personal affairs during his stay in New York.
